Of course you have skills, and that’s why you’re going to be a top contender in today’s job market. But do you know the difference between a “hard” and “soft” skillset? When people say you’re a “born salesman” or a “natural leader” those are part of your soft skills; you may have had formal training, but your given personality is why you’re successful in these areas.

Here’s why soft skills matter: Finding an employee whose personality is a good fit within the organization is more difficult than training that employee on new/unfamiliar software, for example. Soft skills you want to display include:

  • Accountability
  • Adaptability
  • Flexibility
  • Creativity

Try to know which soft skills your potential employer needs. If you’re a team player and enjoy working with others, that’s a plus in some organizations, but being able to work alone, unsupervised, may be more important at other companies.
