When planning an interview, most people focus on choosing the right clothes, outlining possible answers to questions, and learning more about the company. An equally important factor that plays a role in interview success is the time of day at which you schedule your interview. Scheduling interviews at one of a few key times increases your chances of success.

  • Mid-morning is a great time for interviews. By this time, your interviewer’s mind (and your own) will be off of home-related topics and fully focused on work. You don’t, however, want to schedule an interview so late in the morning that you end up catching your interviewer just before lunch.
  • Mid-afternoon is the other key interview time. You don’t want to be the first appointment right after lunch, since your interviewer may not be as focused. You don’t want to be too late in the afternoon when your interviewer is focused on wrapping up the day and going home, either.
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the best days for scheduling interviews. Avoid interviewing on the first day back after a long weekend.
